Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur

Jaigarh Fort crowns the hill above Amber and holds the famous Jaivana cannon. Here are its ticket prices, guide rates and hours.

Jaigarh stands on the Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles), about 400 m above Amber Fort. Rajasthan Tourism credits it to Sawai Jai Singh II in the early 18th century, while Wikipedia traces fortification on the site back to the 11th century, with later rulers adding palace apartments. Built as a military stronghold rather than a residence, it still has thick walls, watchtowers and gates, and runs about 3 km north to south.

Its best-known exhibit is the Jaivana, cast at the fort and once the world's largest cannon on wheels. The fort's own site says the ticket covers the fort, museum, cannon viewing and a sculpture park. Jaigarh is linked to Amber Fort by walls and passages and is usually treated as part of the same complex; the ridge road continues to Nahargarh. The ramparts give some of the best views in the Jaipur area, down to Amber, Maota Lake and Jal Mahal.

Jaigarh is managed by the Jaigarh Public Charitable Trust, not the state archaeology department, so it is not on the government composite ticket; it is included in the City Palace composite ticket. Only trust-licensed guides may lead tours inside. Parking is outside the fort.
