Overview
The Vintage & Classic Car Collection is a family-friendly Udaipur attraction: the Mewar royal family's restored cars in their original garage.
The Vintage & Classic Car Collection opened in full to the public on 15 February 2000. Every vehicle on show belonged to the Maharanas of Mewar, past or present, and each has been restored to working order even though some are more than seventy years old. The collection is housed in the original Mewar State Motor Garage, a semi-circular garage with a forecourt built when the only cars in town belonged to the state.
An original Shell petrol pump still stands in usable condition, and the Garden Hotel restaurant of the HRH Group shares the grounds. Rajasthan Tourism mentions makes such as Cadillac, Chevrolet and Morris; the collection also includes Rolls-Royces, a Buick, Mercedes-Benz saloons, a Chevrolet bus and solar-powered vehicles developed in Udaipur. It is a compact museum that takes under an hour and appeals to families and car enthusiasts alike.
It is run by the HRH Group, the Mewar family's heritage hotel company, and sits a short drive east of the City Palace near Gulab Bagh. Opening hours are not published on the official page, so call ahead.
