Munnar Botanical Garden

Munnar Botanical Garden is a landscaped flower garden just outside town, easy to fit between longer excursions. It suits families and relaxed visitors.

The Government Botanical Garden in Munnar was developed by Kerala's tourism department on the Munnar–Devikulam road near the Government College, about 1 km from Munnar bus stand. Its first phase covers about 5 acres and, according to Onmanorama's report at its launch, cost around Rs 4.5 crore. The garden holds roughly 150 varieties of flowering plants laid out along landscaped slopes and walkways, along with an open-air theatre, a canteen, a souvenir shop and spice shops.

Travel sources also mention medicinal and rare plants. It is one of the few attractions within walking distance of town, which makes it useful for a short visit on arrival, a break between longer drives, or an easy outing with children. Flowers are at their best after the monsoon and through the cool season.

At opening the entry fee was Rs 20 for adults and Rs 10 for children under 12, and a travel site still lists the same rates with hours of 9:00 am to 6:30 pm; both should be confirmed locally. This garden is distinct from privately run rose gardens and nurseries elsewhere around Munnar.
