Kundala Lake, Munnar

Kundala Lake is a calm reservoir on the road to Top Station, known for shikara rides. Entry is free; boating is charged separately.

Kundala Lake lies in the Kundala valley about 25.8 km from Munnar bus stand, on the road to Top Station. The lake is held back by Kundala Dam, also called Setuparvatipuram Dam, a masonry dam on the Muthirapuzha River built as part of the Pallivasal Hydroelectric Project - Kerala's first hydroelectric scheme. The dam is 46.93 metres high and 259.38 metres long and is often described as Asia's first arch dam.

The water is ringed by the Kundala tea estates, eucalyptus and forest, and Kerala Tourism notes a golf course run by Tata Tea in the valley. DTPC Idukki lists boating on the lake, including Kashmiri-style shikara boats, and more active options such as coracle, bamboo raft and kayak; rates are not published. Wikivoyage reports pedal-boat trips of about 30 minutes. There is no entry fee to the lakeside, and DTPC gives visiting hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Kundala is the last major stop before Top Station on DTPC's Tea Valley tour, and is quieter than Mattupetty. Mornings tend to be clearer; mist often settles over the water later in the day.
