Overview
Lakkam Waterfalls is a roadside waterfall with a natural pool on the way from Munnar to Marayoor. DTPC Idukki lists a small entry fee.
Lakkam (also Lakkom) Waterfalls lie about 26.6 km from Munnar bus stand on the road north towards Marayoor. The falls are on the Eravikulam stream, which rises in Eravikulam National Park and is one of the major tributaries of the Pambar River.
The water drops over rock into a natural pool at the base, which DTPC Idukki describes as suitable for bathing; it also mentions a fish spa in the pool, jungle walks and, through the National Adventure Foundation in Munnar, rock climbing and rappelling. DTPC notes the Vaaga (siris) trees around the falls, which flower after the monsoon when several streams form extra cascades.
DTPC Idukki lists an entry fee of Rs 20 per person and visiting hours of 10:00 am to 7:00 pm daily; tickets are sold only on site. The falls are an easy stop on the way to Marayoor's sandalwood forests, or Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. After heavy rain the pool can be turbulent, so follow instructions from staff on when bathing is allowed.
