Mahanavami Dibba, Hampi

A tiered ceremonial platform in the royal centre from which Vijayanagara kings watched festivals, carved with sculpted panels.

Overview

The Mahanavami Dibba is the royal viewing platform at the heart of Hampi's royal centre. We could not confirm fees or timings.

The Mahanavami Dibba, also called the Throne Platform or Dasara Dibba, is a tall stepped platform in Hampi's royal centre. Karnataka Tourism describes it as a ceremonial platform where kings observed festivals, and the Archaeological Survey of India lists the Mahanavami Dibba, carrying beautifully sculptured panels, among the important remains of the city.

Its tiers are covered with relief carvings; Wikipedia's Hampi article, as seen in search results, mentions reliefs showing musicians and dancers. Nearby, ASI notes a square stepped tank (sarovara) south-west of the Dibba found in excavation. The platform stands in open ground with a view over the royal centre, so it is best seen together with the Hazara Rama Temple and the Zenana Enclosure.

We did not find official timings or a separate fee, and ASI's Hampi ticket list does not name the platform, so both are marked unknown. Carry water; there is little shade, and early morning offers the clearest light on the carved tiers.
