Hemakuta Hill, Hampi
A rocky hill of small temples and gateways just south of the Virupaksha Temple, popular for sunset views over the ruins.
Overview
Hemakuta Hill is an easy climb above Hampi Bazaar with small temples and wide views. It is a common sunset stop on a Hampi visit.
Hemakuta Hill is a rocky rise with clusters of small stone temples, gateways and pillared pavilions, lying just south of the Virupaksha Temple by OpenStreetMap coordinates. Karnataka Tourism lists it among Hampi's key attractions. Wikimedia Commons photographs show a Mula Virupaksha shrine on the hill, a two-storey ruined pavilion and goats grazing among the stones, and the hill is also a convenient platform for views over the Virupaksha complex and the boulder landscape.
OpenStreetMap marks a sunset point on the hill. The climb from Hampi Bazaar is short and gentle compared with Matanga Hill, so it suits a late-afternoon stop. We could not find an official source for the age of the individual shrines, fees or separate opening hours; ASI describes Hampi's monuments as open from sunrise to sunset. Wear shoes with grip: the granite surface is smooth and uneven.
As elsewhere in Hampi, the shrines are ruined and some are not open to enter; follow any ASI signs and do not climb on walls.
