Gobindgarh Fort
An 18th-century brick fort, rebuilt by Ranjit Singh and opened to the public in 2017, now run as a heritage venue with museums, shows and live performances.
Overview
Gobindgarh Fort is a heritage fort among the popular places to visit in Amritsar. Timings are from the official site; ticket prices are reported by travel sites and unverified.
Gobindgarh Fort is a square brick-and-lime fort with a perimeter of about 1,000 m on the south-west edge of Amritsar's old city. It was built in the 18th century by Gujjar Singh of the Bhangi Misl, and Maharaja Ranjit Singh strengthened it in 1805 and renamed it after Guru Gobind Singh. The British army occupied it from the middle of the 19th century until 1947, and it stayed under the Indian Army until it was opened to the public on 10 February 2017.
Wikipedia says Ranjit Singh is reported to have kept his treasure, including the Koh-i-Noor, in the Toshakhana. Today the official website lists the Kesariya Darbar experience, the Toshakhana, Warfare and Pagdi museums, VR shows, live performances and a Haat Bazaar. Hours on the official site are 10 AM to 10 PM every day, but the site does not publish prices.
Travel sites report packages from INR 180 for Indians and INR 375 for foreign nationals, with costlier express passes and separately charged Toshakhana and Warfare Museum tickets. Those prices are unverified. Visit in the evening when the shows run and the fort is lit.
