Durgiana Temple
A Hindu temple on an artificial lake, rebuilt in 1921 in the style of the Golden Temple, with silver doors and a gilded dome.
Overview
Durgiana Temple is a Hindu shrine among the quieter places to visit in Amritsar, built on a lake in the style of the Golden Temple. Verify timings locally.
Durgiana Temple, also called Shri Durgiana Mandir and the Silver Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Durga, with Lakshmi and Vishnu also worshipped there. Its architecture is modelled on Harmandir Sahib: the shrine stands in the middle of a sacred lake measuring roughly 160 by 130 metres, reached by a bridge, with a gilded dome and marble work.
Wikipedia says the temple was rebuilt in 1921 by Guru Harsai Mal Kapoor, though a temple and tank existed earlier and appear in an 1893 district gazetteer. The silver doors give it its second name. The complex also has smaller shrines, including Seetla Mata and Bara Hanuman. It stands near Hathi Gate, close to Amritsar railway station, and is easily combined with a visit to the old city.
Tobacco, liquor and meat sales are restricted within 200 metres of this temple and the Golden Temple. We could not find an official site or published timings and fees, so check locally. Remove footwear and dress modestly.
