Triveni Ghat
Rishikesh's main bathing ghat, where a Ganga Aarti is held at sunset each evening beside the town's main market.
Overview
Triveni Ghat is the main place to see a Ganga Aarti in Rishikesh. This guide covers timing, entry and what to expect on the steps.
Triveni Ghat is the principal bathing ghat in Rishikesh, on the right bank of the Ganges close to the town's main market. It is known for the evening Ganga Aarti, a ritual of fire lamps, bells and chanting held around sunset, with the exact time shifting by season. Pilgrims bathe at the ghat and float leaf boats with flowers and lamps, and many people also visit at dawn, when the scene is quieter.
The ghat is a short walk from Bharat Mandir and from the road to Ram Jhula, so it works as a first stop on a walking tour of the old town. Smaller aartis are also held at Parmarth Niketan in Swargashram, farther up the river. The ghat is free to enter. Expect crowds on evenings and weekends, vendors selling diyas, and attempts to steer you toward paid rituals; you can decline. Take care on the wet steps, and do not enter deep water because of the Ganges' current.
Rishikesh is a vegetarian and alcohol-free town, so food stalls nearby follow those rules.
